Lemon Essential Oil

We use Lemon daily in our home!! It's one of my favorite oils to diffuse in the kitchen because it smells cirtusy, fresh, and clean. It always puts a smile on my face! Everyone loves the scent of a fresh lemon! But did you know that Lemon has a variety of uses and benefits besides just smelling amazing? I also love to add Lemon to my water quite often for its immune supporting properties. It's very concentrated, so I just add 1 drop to 4 oz of water. I also love to clean with Lemon. I often add 10 drops to 1/2 cup of olive oil and will use that to dust the furniture. And because we have four kids, we use Lemon all the time to remove all things sticky! We've also used it to remove crayon and marker off the walls. It always amazes me how well it works! Some other great uses for Lemon include the following:

  • Mix with water in a spray bottle and use as a non-toxic cleaner throughout the home

  • Diffuse to cleanse and purify the air

  • Add a drop to your water to cleanse the body and aid in digestion

  • Use to support a healthy respiratory function

  • Use with Lavender and Peppermint for seasonal support

  • Diffuse to promote a positive mood

  • Apply to blemishes before bed

  • Use for early stages of tarnish on silver

  • Place a few drops on a rag and use to remove sticky residues

  • Apply diluted over the kideys or take internally to support the kidneys

  • Soak a cloth in Lemon and use to preserve and protect leather furniture

  • Diffuse during homework time to aid with concentration

  • Wash hands with Lemon to remove grease

  • Use in your favorite desserts, fish recipes, and with fresh veggies

  • Use as an oral rinse to soothe the mouth and throat

  • Remove permanent marker from whiteboards, walls, and glass

  • Mix with Castile Soap to use as a liquid dish soap

According to the Emotions & Essential Oils reference guide, Lemon is known as the Oil of Focus and can be used to nourish the mind and aid in concentration. Its a great oil to try for confusion, mental fatigue, and learning issues. One of my sons actually scans for this all the time on the iTOVi Hand Scanner and it makes total sense.

When I am looking to change things up in my diffuser, I will blend Lemon with other citrus oils like Grapefruit, Lime, or Bergamot. This brings out the energizing scent of Lemon. It's also great to combine with minty essential oils like Peppermint, Douglas Fir, or Wintergreen. Or to spice things up, I will add it to the diffuser with Cinnamon or Wild Orange!

Fun facts about Lemon:

  • Lemon essential oil is extracted from the lemon rinds, or peel of the lemon.

  • It typically takes around 45 lemons to fill a 15ml essential oil bottle. Yes 45!!

  • Lemon is comprised of monoterpenes which are known to have uplifting characteristics. This is why I LOVE to diffuse it. It's our happy oil.

  • To get the highest quality, doTERRA sources Lemon essential oil from citrus orchards in Sicily, Italy.

  • This is one of doTERRA's least expensive oils at only 4 cents per drop!

  • Lemon is one of the most commonly recommended essential oils for babies.

Lemon can be used aromatically, topically, or internally. Always use with caution and dilute with a carrier oil for children or anyone with sensitive skin. If using internally, dilute one drop in four ounces of liquid. And because Lemon is a photosensitive oil, avoid applying it topically to any part of the skin that will be exposed to direct sunlight or UV rays within 12 hours.

If you have used Lemon, I would love to hear how you use it. Comment below and share! If you have not tried it, I am confident that you will love it as much as I do and see why it is one of the most popular essential oils.
